The Renault Arkana is the 2nd best-selling vehicle in Cyprus in April. According toour local partners SEMO Cyprus and INNOSOFT , the Cypriot new car market collapses -31.8% year-on-year in April to just 1,096 units. As a reminder, April 2024 was up 105.4% on the year prior. The year-to-date tally is now down -8.7% to 5,546. Kia (-48.5%) keeps the lead of the brands charts despite imploding year-on-year.
The Peugeot 2008 is the best-selling vehicle in Greece so far this year. It’s a second consecutive positive month for the Greek new car market at a solid +9% year-on-year in April to 14,649 units. Due to a difficult start of the year, the YTD tally remains in negative for now at -4.5% to 47,845. Toyota (-14.5%) can’t benefit from the market growth but still remain in the brands lead by far at 14.8% share.

Historical Data as far as 1932 is available for Czechoslovakia, split between Czech Republic and Slovakia from 1993 onwards. Tatra was the best-selling brand in the country in 1932 and 1935-1936 with Praga taking the lead in 1933-1934.
The Kia K3 is the best-selling vehicle in Colombia year-to-date. New vehicle sales in Colombia advance 13.8% year-on-year in April to 17,430 units, leading to a year-to-date volume up 20.4% to 67,304. Kia (+29%) overtakes Renault (+19.7%) for just two units but remains #2 year-to-date. Mazda (+48.2%) surges ahead and gains two spots on last month to end up on the third step of the podium.
The VinFast VF 5 is the most popular vehicle at home in April. According to local manufacturers association VAMA and Hyundai, the Vietnamese new vehicle market is up 19% year-on-year in April to 34,055. The year-to-date tally is up 21.5% to 117,768. This month once again we have access to exclusive figures for local carmaker VinFast, leading to an April volume at 43,643 and a YTD tally at 162,459.
BYD holds 10.2% of the Uruguayan market in April. 5,078 new cars found a buyer in Uruguay in April, a -2.8% year-on-year contraction. The year-to-date tally is up 9.9% to 20,559. The Top 4 carmakers all defy the market decline with double-digit gains. Fiat advances 10.9% to 14% share vs. 16.9% so far this year, followed by BYD up 95.9% to 10.4% share, its second best below the 12% it hit in June 2024.
The Suzuki Alto still holds 21.5% of the Pakistani market in April. According to local manufacturers association PAMA, 10,596 new locally assembled vehicles found buyer in Pakistan in April, a tiny +0.8% year-on-year uptick. Year-to-date, the volume amounts to 50,788, up 26.5% year-on-year. Note not all manufacturers present in Pakistan are members of PAMA such as Kia, Changan and MG notably and therefore dont appear in these statistics.
The Skoda Octavia is the best-selling vehicle in Slovenia in April. 5,193 new cars hit Slovenian roads in April, a solid 10.6% year-on-year improvement. This way, the year-to-date tally is up 6.3% to 19,865. 3 of the Top 4 carmakers outpace the market, with Volkswagen (+18.3%) and Skoda (+42.6%) very robust at the top to 16.4% and 14.4% share respectively vs. 15.5% and 11.8% so far this year.
The Dacia Duster is the most popular vehicle in Portugal in April. The Portuguese new car market lifts 8.2% year-on-year in April to 18,752 sales, tilting the year-to-date volume into positive at +1.2% to 77,297. Peugeot (+64.6%) soars ahead to solidify its dominance in the brands charts, while Mercedes (+13.8%) advances one spot on last month to #2.
GAC breaks into the Singaporean Top 10 thanks to its Aion EV range. New car sales in Singapore advance 14.4% year-on-year in April to 3,949 units, leading to a year-to-date volume up 28% to 14,863. BYD (+34.7%) posts its fourth consecutive monthly win and sports its 2nd best ever market share at 20.7%, also hit last February. The Chinese carmaker is now above 3,000 sales year-to-date for a 20.2% share.
The Geely Xingyuan is the best-selling vehicle in China in April and year-to-date. According to data by CAAM, the Chinese wholesale market continues to perk up in April at +9.8% year-on-year to 2.59 million units (this figure includes exports). New Energy Vehicles climb 44.2% year-on-year to 1,226,000 equalling to 47.3% share vs. 36% in April 2024 and 42.4% last month.
The SWM G03F ranks #10 in Montenegro in March. According to data byour local partner CE Auto , 382 new cars found a buyer in Montenegro in March, leading to a year-to-date tally standing at 839. The Hyundai Tucson takes the lead this month with 5.5% share, distancing three Skodas: the Octavia at 4.5%, the Kamiq at 4.2% and Fabia at 3.7%. Notice also the Audi A3 pointing its bonnet at #6 but the most surprising result comes from the Chinese SWM G01F cracking the Top 10 for the month at #10.
The Skoda Elroq is among the 10 favourite cars of German private buyers in April. 81,557 new cars were sold to Germany private buyers in April for a 33.6% private sales ratio (PSR). This is up 1% on April 2024 when the PSR was 33.2%. Year-to-date, private sales are up 3.1% to307,574 for a 33.9% PSR vs. 31.8% a year ago. Like last month, the Fiat Duacto is the favourite of private buyers with a 55.2% PSR ratio as camper van building gears up in the lead to summer.
Mahindra sales are up 43.1% year-on-year in April. New vehicle sales in South Africa grow by a solid 11.9% year-on-year in April to 42,401 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 10.6% to 186,433. Out of the monthly total, 37,258 units or 87.9% represent dealer sales, 7% are sales to rental companies, 2.7% to industry corporate fleets and 2.5% to government.
The Toyota Hilux is the best-selling vehicle in Chile in April. 26,132 new light vehicles found a buyer in Chile in April, a 2.5% year-on-year improvement. This way, the year-to-date volume tilts into positive at +0.4% to 97,010 units. Toyota (+33.8%) lodges a splendid performance and wrestles back control of the brands charts both for the month and year-to-date.
The Renault Symbioz outsells the Captur for the first time. Another disappointing month for French new car sales, down -5.6% year-on-year in April to 138,694 and leading to a year-to-date tally off -7.3% to 548,779. The only channels showing growth are tactical: short term rentals and self registrations whereas private and fleet sales collapse. More concerning, private leases sink by over 20% this month.
Dacia Duster sales are down -27.9% year-on-year despite a new generation. It’s a mediocre month for new car sales in Romania with April off -24.7% year-on-year to 9,996 units. To be fair, April 2024 was up 34.6% on the year prior. Year-to-date volumes are off -6.1% to 43,688. Local behemoth Dacia (-40.3%) falls significantly faster than its home market to 23.3% share vs. 28% so far this year.
T oyota Roomy sales are up 4-fold year-on-year in April. It’s another strong month for new vehicle sales in Japan at +10.5% year-on-year to 342,876 units as year-ago volumes were impacted by production disruptions. The year-to-date tally after four month is up 13% to 1,628,227. Toyota (+12.1%) manages to beat its home market to climb to 32.9% share vs. 31% so far this year.
The Fiat Fastback is up to a record 12th place in April. The Brazilian new light vehicle market recedes -5.6% year-on-year in April to fall back below the 200,000 monthly units mark at 196,326. Thanks to a strong start of the year, the YTD volume stays in positive at +3.1% to 712,608. This is however still -11% below the 801,330 sales achieved over the first 4 months of pre-pandemic 2019.
Peugeot sales are up 393.3% year-on-year in April. New car sales in Luxembourg edge down -1.2% year-on-year in April to4,363 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up just 0.7% to 17,034. Volkswagen (-4.4%) easily stays on top of the brands ranking with a dominant 13.6% share, distancing a struggling BMW (-17.8%). Mercedes (+31.7%) and Audi (+21.3%) both surge and ensure the Top 4 brands are in the same order as last month, YTD and Full Year 2024.
The BYD Seal U is only outsold by the Renault Clio in April. 105,352 new light vehicles found a buyer in Turkiye in April, a spectacular 38.8% year-on-year surge and a new record for the month, the first time above 100,000 units and eclipsing the previous April best of 97,679 in April 2023. The year-to-date tally is now in positive at 381,626, also a new record for the period beating the 371,438 units of last year.
The CMC J Space is the 2nd best-selling vehicle in Taiwan in April. Another difficult month for Taiwanese new vehicle sales with April at -11.2% year-on-year to32,876 units. The year-to-date volume is also down -11.2% to 132,736. Brand leader Toyota (+3.8%) defies the negative context to an overwhelming 30.4% share vs. 32% so far this year. Lexus (-0.9%) and Mercedes (-3.7%) both contain their loss to close out the podium whereas CMC (+44.8%) and BMW (+13.8%) both post splendid year-on-year gain

The Renault Kardian is the best-selling recent launch. New light vehicle sales in Argentina continue to rally back up at a spectacular +63.2% year-on-year in April to 50,963 units. This is the best April result in 7 years: since the 76,554 sales of April 2018. The year-to-date volume after four months is up 83.5% to 205,201. Toyota (+26.5%) is back to the brands top spot with 19% share and despite vastly underperforming year-on-year.

Notably, the fleet of Shanghai taxi is almost exclusively composed of the Roewe ei5 station wagon.
The Dacia Duster breaks into the Icelandic Top 10 for its first month of sales. 1,447 new cars hit Icelandic roads in April, a shy 6.2% improvement. Year-to-date it’s 3,704 vehicles that left dealerships, a 34.8% surge on devastated year-ago volumes. Kia (+83.7%) is back to #1 for the second time this year after last January with a gargantuan 22.6% share, cementing its YTD lead at 18.3% of the market, Toyota (+134.4%) comes second ahead of Dacia (-35.2%) and Hyundai (-45.6%) both falling s
GWM is the third best-selling brand in Ecuador in March, helped by the Poer pickup. The Ecuadorian new car market collapses -32.9% year-on-year in March to just 9,055 units, keeping in mind March 2024 was artificially boosted by pulled forward sales before the introduction of a new 15% tax. The Q1 volume stands at 25,632, off -19.8% year-on-year and the weakest Q1 result since 2020 (24,830).
The Toyota Land Cruiser pickup is equal #1 in Jordan. The Jordanian new vehicle market edges up 2.7% year-on-year over Q1 to 8,865 registrations. Toyota (+5.4%) keeps the lead of the brands charts with 32.6% share, whereas Kia (-21.3%) dives down to 22% of the market vs. 28.
The Jetour T2 climbs to 4th position over Q1 in Kuwait. The Kuwaiti new vehicle market is up 5.5% year-on-year over Q1 to 35,394 units. As is the case in most countries in the region, Toyota (+12.3%) dominates head and shoulders with 28.9% share. Nissan (+0.
The Toyota Land Cruiser Pickup ranks #3 in Oman over Q1. The Omani new vehicle market is very dynamic in this start of the year with Q1 volumes up 23% year-on-year to 18,483. Market leader Toyota (+8%) however trails the market and sees its share drop from 52.7% to a still overbearing 46.3%.
The Jetour T2 is up to 4th place in Bahrain over Q1. Bahrain new vehicle sales increase 12.2% year-on-year over Q1 to 9,142. Toyota (-10%) remains the faraway leader but sees its market share slide from 34.8% last year to 27.9%. Nissan (-5.3%) is also in a bit of trouble at 8.1% share vs. 9.
Kia Sportage sales are up 121.1% year-on-year. Excellent start of the year for the Iraqi new vehicle market with sales up 17.1% over Q1 to 44,621. Kia (+25.9%) reclaims the brands top spot off Toyota (-9.3%) which was #1 over Q1 2024. MG (+68%) advances to #3 ahead of Nissan (+309.9%!
Hyundai H100 The Syrian new car market remains completely annihilated with just 103 sales over Q1. This is better than the 29 sales of Q1 2024 but still a dismal result. Hyundai is the only manufacturer still present in the country and the H100 leads the way with 97.1% share.

Our local partner CE Auto has the North Macedonian new car market off a devastating -27.4% year-on-year in March to 538 units. This way, the Q1 volume is now down -8.5% to 1,566. The Skoda Octavia (-12.1%) snaps the top spot for the first time since September 2022 and still ranks #2 year-to-date as it did over the Full Year 2024.
The Skoda Kodiaq is the best-selling car in Moldova in March. Data by our Central European partner CE Auto shows a Moldovan market off -6.2% year-on-year to 705 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 2.9% to 1,951. This month the Skoda Kodiaq (+290.9%) and Kia Sportage (+13.5%) upset the traditional leader, the Dacia Duster (-67.1%) relegated to third place.
Hyundai Tucson sales are up 51.5% year-on-year in March. According to our local partner CE Auto , new car sales in Bosnia & Herzegovina have a bad month in March at -18.4% year-on-year to 848 units, sending the Q1 tally off -11.1% to 2,445. The Skoda Octavia (-6.8%) remains the runaway leader with 8.1% share vs. 5.9% for the Hyundai Tucson, surging at +51.5%.
The Skoda Fabia is the most popular vehicle in Serbia in March. Based on data shared with us by our Central European partner CE Auto , the Serbian new car market edges down -5.3% year-on-year in March to3,042 units. This leads to a Q1 volume off -6% to 6,960. The Skoda Fabia (+39.4%) surges from outside the February Top 10 directly into pole position and advances to #3 year-to-date, a ranking it also held over the Full Year 2024.
The Renault Clio is the best-selling vehicle in Bulgaria in March. Thanks to CE Auto and after one year of absence, Bulgaria is back on BSCB with a Top 10 models. 4,674 new cars found a buyer in March and 12,825 over Q1. The Renault Clio is a distant leader this month with 7.2% share, ahead of the Toyota Corolla at 4.7% – the leader year-to-date.
The BYD Seagull holds 10.9% of the Albanian market over Q1. Thanks to CE Auto , today we can share with you exclusive data for Albania. This is the first time we publish any official data for this country which will be a monthly update from now on. 421 new cars found a buyer in March and 1,301 over Q1. There are many surprises in the models ranking for the month.
After looking at the notable foreigners at the Shanghai Auto Show, it’s now time for the domestic brands. We’ll look at the 3 most impressive Chinese carmakers in a separate post. What would have been previously considered as secondary brands are now commanding the biggest footprint in the Show. BYD (+60%) surges once again to lodge its third consecutive win with 18.8% share. Toyota (+15.8%) trails the market but repeats at #2, a ranking it now also holds year-to-date.
